Ghosts in windows, jack ‘o lanterns on stoops, families stocking up on candy… yes, Halloween is on the way. Even if you don’t sell pirate costumes or hanging skull decorations, this spook-tacular holiday is a fantastic opportunity to attract new customers or build awareness about your cause or team. No bones about it!

It all starts with ordering some custom Halloween-themed products—like lapel pins, silicone wristbands, key chains, or lanyards. Make them creepy and colorful, and don’t forget to include your organization name or logo. Look for a manufacturer that offers free artwork, with staff that can help you come up with the perfect design. Now you’ve got the basis for a variety of fun Halloween promotions!

Here are some ideas to help you attract new customers and supporters and generate a buzz in your city or town.

Halloween Event Giveaways

Does your nonprofit organization hold haunted house fundraisers every year? Hand out custom awareness ribbon pins to everyone who dares to enter! Likewise, if you’re sponsoring a game booth at a fall festival or similar event, pass out your pins to all participants.

If you coach a high school baseball team, consider holding a Halloween car wash to raise money for the upcoming season. Have all your players dress up in their favorite zany costumes to pique the curiosity of passing motorists. Then hand out colorful team trading pins to everyone who buys a wash. Pretty soon, the whole town will be proudly sporting your team’s logo!

Doling out fun, branded tokens is a great way to show appreciation while spreading the word about your cause.

Costume Contest

Have your customers get dressed up on October 31st and visit your store or special event. Everyone gets a Halloween-themed lapel pin just for participating. You can then present prizes (your products/services or a fancy award lapel pin) for the top 3 costumes. Make it even more exciting with award categories such as “Scariest Costume” or “Most Creative Costume.”

You can also take your contest to your social media pages, and have customers post photos of themselves in full costume. Then, pick one or two winners from the photo comments and send them a branded Halloween lapel pin or key chain!

Scavenger Hunt

Have customers visit various departments or associates in your store and collect a lapel pin from each one. Once they’ve gathered all of their pins, the customer can present them and receive a VIP discount coupon. This is a fantastic way to encourage customers to move through your store (and shop!).

So go ahead, have some frightening fun with your customers and supporters on Halloween—it can help you make an impression and build a lasting connection! Don’t be afraid to come up with some of your own promotion ideas, and change it up year after year.
